frequently asked
do we make the book before or after the move?
either works. before the move you use photos of the old house and the book becomes a way to say goodbye together. after the move, the moving day and the new bedroom can go in — then the story is complete. making a book twice is allowed too, of course.
which photos work well?
photos of your child in and around the old house: their room, the garden, the street, the neighbours. three photos is already enough. if you have photos of the new house — from the viewing or the first time with the key — they make a lovely ending.
will a book help my child with the move?
we don’t promise miracles. but a story in which your child moves house themselves makes the big thing concrete and gives you something to talk about together — about what stays behind, and what’s new on the other side. and the old house is in there just as it was, to read back later.
can the sad part be in the story too?
yes, please. when you make the book, briefly tell us what’s going on — that your child will miss their room, or the friend across the street. we write a warm story around it that’s honest about the goodbye and ends in the new bedroom.
