we don’t promise miracles. but a story in which your child gives the dummy away themselves makes the big thing a little familiar in advance, and gives you something to talk about together in the days before. the real goodbye stays exciting — but your child will have seen themselves do it once already.
which photos do I use?
ordinary photos of your child are enough, three is already plenty. a photo with the dummy makes a lovely start to the story — and in a few years it’s the proof that the dummy really did exist.
do we make the book before or after the goodbye?
either works. beforehand it becomes a book to look ahead with: reading together how it will go, and then the big day. afterwards it becomes a keepsake — look, that’s how brave you were. and the book stays, even if the dummy is missed for the first few evenings.
